Don’t forget about the parents’ needs

We have spoken to lots of parents recently about the issues they consider when choosing a boarding school to meet the needs of their family. While the Boarding Expo team advises parents to start by thinking about all the aspects of the school experience and consider what is important to their child – whether his or her talent is in sport, creative arts or academic pursuits, one thing that stands out in regional communities is the incredible support networks that boarding schools have to offer.

At our Dubbo Expo, we had eight principals, deputy heads and heads of boarding help man their schools’ exhibits. We already have five senior representatives coming to Wagga next weekend. This shows parents that the leading boarding schools are genuinely interested in country boarders. But they are also interested in supporting their parents.

Several schools hosted events for parents while they were in Dubbo last month and we expect to see similar events in Wagga. These events are important opportunities for parents to network and to chat to the principal or other leading representative, away from the school environment.

So when choosing a school for your child, stop and think about the support network that will be available to you, as that could be something that helps you cope with sending your child to boarding school.

Visit our website for a full list of the schools taking part in our Wagga Expo on 13 and 14 June.

The School of the EXPO Award celebrates genuine connection between families and schools. Voted on by families attending each event, the award recognises schools that stand out for their friendliness, presentation, and knowledge of boarding life. It’s a fun, interactive way for families – and their children – to engage with the schools in the room, while giving exhibitors valuable feedback on what resonates most. Each winning school receives a free registration for the following year’s Expo in recognition of their excellence.
