This week we’re shining a spotlight on Hurlstone Agricultural High School, one of only three government boarding schools in NSW. For many country families, the school interview can feel intimidating. You might drive hundreds of kilometres, put your child in their best clothes and walk through gates wondering if your child is “good enough” for the school.

I was so desperate to “do boarding school properly” that at times I followed the rules more than my gut. And my gut knew you needed softness before structure some days.

Pymble Ladies’ College has a long and proud tradition of Boarding, with 20 of our first 60 students enrolled as Boarders when the College opened in 1916. Today, we have a thriving community of 150 Boarding students with 70% hailing from regional NSW.

With just a couple of weeks to go, I received word that the Crossing Theatre in Narrabri could no longer host our Boarding Schools Expo – through no fault of ours obviously. Faced with this sudden venue loss, I had a choice to make. Cancel, or adapt.
