Boys are tribal.
From the bush to the city, and everywhere in between. They learn from other boys. That’s why we have Houses. And teams. And competitions. While peers are important, so too are the ‘elders’ in the tribe. That is why our boarding house staff are important mentors. Mentoring helps boys to accept guidance and support while staying in the driver’s seat and deciding their own course of action.
Since 1901 the tradition of boarding has played an important role in the life of Brisbane Boys’ College (BBC) – a GPS boys school in Toowong, Queensland with day students from Prep to Year 12 and boarding students in Years 6 to 12. As a boys’ school, BBC is specifically tailored to meet the needs of young men as they progress through their education, delivering active learning to help boys discover who they are and to explore their passion and purpose in life.
All about the boy.
This is at the very heart of Brisbane Boys’ College. Like each of our boys, BBC has its own unique place in the world. It’s a story that belongs to our entire community and one that brings to life our guiding philosophy – All about the boy. It articulates our approach, how we think differently and importantly highlights our thought leadership on boys’ education. Our residential care program inspires young boys from across the country and around the world through educational and unique cultural experiences, which when it comes to boarding take on a class of their own.
BBC moves beyond education to total care.
House parents can never replace mum and dad, but at BBC they offer the special care and genuine support boys need when away from home. Combine this with our Resident Masters, Tutors, Counsellors and College Chaplain and you have a blend of family-like relationships, caring support and welcome advice.
Our newly renovated, air-conditioned facilities provide boys with comfortable six-person dorms, larger dorms and individual rooms (based on Year Level), multiple common rooms and breakout spaces with gaming consoles and flat-screen TVs, and individual and group study areas for academic preparation. All meals are prepared onsite by our experienced catering staff, catering to the dietary needs of growing boys. A recreational activities program ensures boarding on weekends is a unique way of life that is brimming with exciting opportunities.
