There’s something about walking into The King’s School that immediately feels different.
Full disclosure. Our son went to King’s. It wasn’t where he had been booked into since he was 2 years of age, or where we had family connections. He chose King’s.
For him, it wasn’t the buildings or the history that sealed the decision. It was the land. The space. The unmistakable sense that this was a school where country boys would feel they belonged.
My son was, without question, one of the most homesick kids to ever head off to boarding school. And yet, when we visited King’s, he could see himself there. He could breathe there. He could imagine life unfolding across those wide paddocks and pathways. That mattered more than anything else.
Today, King’s remains one of the largest boarding communities in Australia, home to around 400 boarders living and learning together.
What strikes me still is how intentionally the school brings city and country families together. Everyone gathers for meals in the dining halls. There’s no tuck shop culture. No scattering off in different directions. Just boys sitting down together, sharing food and conversation as part of daily life. It’s simple, but it’s powerful.
Boarding here has deep roots, stretching back almost 200 years, and you can feel that continuity in the way the community operates.
There’s structure, care and a genuine sense of belonging that grows over time. For many families, especially those coming from regional and rural areas, that matters enormously.
And for younger children, there’s also the gentle introduction to boarding at Tudor House, where boys and girls begin their journey in Years 3 to 6 in a setting that feels calm, grounded and wonderfully age-appropriate.
In today’s Takeover Thursday, King’s shares more about academic life, the strength of its boarding houses and the opportunities across both campuses.
If you’re researching boarding for your child, it’s a special window into a community that has long understood how to bring boys – and families – together.

Boarding Opportunities for Years 3 to 12
For almost 200 years, boarding has been at the heart of The King’s School, offering a place where students feel supported, connected and inspired to grow.
Boys in Years 7 to 12 board at our 320-acre Parramatta campus, while boys and girls in Years 3 to 6 experience a welcoming introduction to boarding at Tudor House in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales. Across both campuses, students benefit from exceptional facilities, wide open spaces and dedicated staff that support them as they learn, grow and thrive.
With a strong focus on pastoral care, boarding at King’s feels like an extension of home, while maintaining meaningful connections with families.
Our staff value connecting with current, past and prospective families through Regional Tours, Boarding Schools Expos and Field Days across New South Wales.

Nearly 200 years of boardingAcademic Success – One Part of the Story
At King’s, success is measured by more than academic results. It is seen in the development of the whole student, nurturing compassionate, capable and wise young men of strong character. We are proud of the Class of 2025 who embodied this all-round approach while also achieving outstanding academic success.

Living, Learning and Growing Together
Boarding not only supports students academically, but also provides an environment where young people develop independence, self-discipline, responsibility and empathy. At every age, King’s students are supported on their journey as they grow both in and beyond the classroom.

Why Choose Primary Boarding?
For families considering boarding, starting in primary school can be a truly transformative experience. It helps children become familiar with the routines and challenges that boarding can bring, building confidence and independence before they take the next step into high school.
