What to include in a care package

Share

care-packageNow that our students have had a few weeks to settle in, they will start to think about home – particularly if they are at a school where they don’t have any free weekends for the first few weeks. A care package is the answer. Care packages don’t need to be lavish. They are just a simple way of saying “I’m thinking of you” or “Here are some of the things I know you like”.

For new students, it’s also a nice idea to send their address to their friends from home so they can send a letter, card or even just a packet of mints. The key is that even in today’s technology rich environment, it’s always nice to receive something in the mail.

But before you pack everything up and find the cost of postage is nearly as much as their school fees, think about things that are light or flat and, for food items, aim for things that won’t go off quickly, crush or melt in transit.

Here are some suggestions:

beef jerky
two-minute noodles
mints
dried fruit
muesli bars
toiletries
iTunes card
an eye mask or pillow
scented drawer sachet
whoopee cushion for something fun
back scratcher
pick up sticks
glow sticks
puzzle or crossword book
barrel of monkeys
frisbee
